You are a reporter for the local paper in your metropolitan area. Your paper and the rest of the nation have just heard about the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor. The editor knows that people will be hungry for this important news. Your assignment is to write at least six columns of news. You are to use eyewitness accounts of the attack. This will include American as well as Japanese accounts (we are assuming that captured Japanese pilots gave their accounts immediately after the attack). Your assignment will include at least one picture from the devastation of Pearl Harbor. In your own words, write a caption for the picture you have chosen. In addition, you will choose one of the "man on the street " interviews recorded immediately after the attack on Pearl Harbor and write a short column on what was said including the name of the individuals if known. Furthermore, we all must remember the five "w's" of a story(the who, what, when, where and why) and the how.
Using either Microsoft Publisher or Word (or any like program) create a newspaper. The title of the paper must included either your name (Smith Sentinel) or the school name (John Glen Orbitor). As stated, the paper must have a picture with an original caption. The picture has to be visible.
The newspaper must be printed on both sides with page numbers on the bottom. The paper should be free of 'white' space. Your name should be at the top of each column as a bi-line. In addition, the date should be on the paper to the right of the paper title.
(To print on two pages requires you to utilize your printer effectively or produce this on a copy machine. The front and back pages must be justified.)
The photograph should tell when it was taken and what it represents. Is there anything in the picture foreground or back ground you want to call attention to? Remember, this is your work However, we can always use a little help and advise from a friend.
